5 Important Rules To Have A Profitable Squarespace Website

I designed and launched 26 Squarespace websites in 2019, and I learned a lot about how your website can convert visitors into paying clients. If you’re spending this time revamping your site, or maybe you’re starting from scratch, then here are some important rules to keep in mind!

1. Set The Vibe With A Mood Board

Start your website project with a Pinterest board, then sift through all your pins and select 10 images that focus on colors, textures, patterns, website layouts, logos and fonts that really speak to the vibes of your website. Save these images, look at them side by side and know that this is the visual direction and mood board for your website. Have it by your side always.

Here is an example Pinterest board for you to check out!

2. Select Stunning Imagery

One of the biggest things that will make or break your website is the imagery. Select beautiful, high resolution images and you’re GOLD!

If you have taken photos on a DSLR camera or had a photoshoot, or even have a library of high res images then you’re set!

Or you can always purchase some awesome stock images from: stocksy.com or shutterstock.com

3. Craft Killer Copy

A stunning website is useless if you can’t clearly communicate what it is that you do! Here are a few keys things to remember while writing your copy:

  1. Make sure the top banner, on your homepage, has a super clear tagline that tells people what you do and who you do it for!

  2. Your website should have a clean and clear call to action. This could be a button on the top right of your navigation that says, “Book Your Call Today”, “Buy Now” or “Get A Quote” etc.

  3. Less is more! People don’t have time to read every detail, so make sure that every sentence has a purpose. Try to stay away from long paragraphs and simplify your content.

  4. Create a brand voice. What would your business sound like if it was a person talking to your ideal client? Have fun and really try to express that tone of voice throughout your website copy.

4. Keep The Nav Squeaky Clean

The top navigation usually contains sections like: Home, About, Shop, Blog, Services and Contact. This nav will tell people how they can find specific information on your website. It’s super important to make sure that your website is really easy to navigate. The last thing you want is a nav that has a million pages and drop-downs and completely overwhelms your visitor. I’d suggest sticking to a max of 6 different pages and have your logo link back to your homepage. Keep it simple and keep it clean.

5. A Crystal Clear “Call To Action”

What is that main action you want a visitor to do on your website? You probably want them to buy your product or service, or book a call, or get in touch with you, right? Make sure you have several crystal clear buttons that tell people to, “Buy Now” or whatever action words work best for you. Make sure to put this button in your navigation, on the top banner on your homepage, within your interior pages and in your footer. You never want the visitor to not know what to do or how they can work with you. You want your website to be super easy to navigate.

I promise you, if you incorporate these 5 rules, while designing and building out your website, you are setting yourself up for success!
